One Point Perspective Swirls Drawing

In this lesson students will create a one point perspective using swirled shapes. Students will draw a vanishing point in the middle of their page and then swirled shapes around it. Each swirl will then be joined to the vanishing point. Once the drawing is complete students will use pencils to create tone in their work.

Lesson 1

Students look at one point perspective drawings. Discuss the process in creating the three-dimensional effect and how the vanishing point creates the horizon line.

Students begin by drawing their vanishing point in the middle of the page. They will then draw swirls around the point. From there students join both outside edges of the swirl to the vanishing point and then draw a line from the starting point and the ending point of each swirl to the point. Ensure students are careful not to draw a line through a shape that has been made solid.

Once students have drawn all of their swirls they will use coloured pencils to colour in their shapes. To create tone they will shade in the areas close

Reflection:

Students Reflect on the process in creating a one point perspective. Write instructions with diagrams in their book of the step by step process as if they were going to teach someone else how to create a one point perspective work.

Extension:

Students can use their new skills to experiment with different shapes trying a combination of organic and geometric forms.
