In this lesson activity video we create a range of natural pigments made from found items and create a simple nature inspired painting.
Natural Pigment Painting
Step 1
Collect a range of materials to create your pigments such as berries, flowers, leaves, soil, clay, sap, spices etc.
Step 2
Use a stone to grind your pigment ingredients, one at a time, onto a piece of acetate.
Step 3
Put your crushed pieces into a section of your palette and add a small amount of water using a pipette. Leave your pigments to steep for a few minutes giving them a stir.
Step 4
Record the ingredients you have used and the resulting colours created as a record for future pigment making.
Step 5
Once you have a selection of colours you can use them to create an artwork. Apply the pigment on to water colour paper in a similar way you would use water colour paint.
