In this video Lesson Plan activity, we explore acrylic ink on watercolour paper to create an ink whale painting inspired by Australian fauna.
Ink Whales
Step 1
Sketch out your whales onto a piece of watercolour paper using a light graphite pencil.
Step 2
Wet your whale shape in your drawing working in one area at a time.
Step 3
Starting with the darker areas in your image of your whale, while the paper is wet, run a line of water down and ink along the inner outline so the colour runs into the centre of the area you are painting. Use different brush applications like dabbing to add texture.
Step 4
Let each section dry before beginning the next, especially if the previous area is a bit damp.
Step 5
Add a few watered down drips of ink to indicate water on your design
